Soaring in the bluest of skies, a squawking seagull spreads its wings and takes the stance of a mighty eagle.
For a moment, I didn't remember the seagull as the noisy bird that begs scraps off people having a sandwich in the park. I forget how the guttural squawks of squabbling gulls shattered the peace of a pleasant stroll by the beach. It didn't even come to mind how seagulls once stole whole slices of bread when I wasn't looking.
For that moment, the beast became beauty, the ugly duckling became a swan and Cinderella's pumpkin became a golden carriage.
This shot was taken as I was 'cowering' under the giant rock at Little Oberon bay. What's amazing about this shot is that it is not cropped at all - straight out of the camera. This little fella spread its wings and swooped down straight at me with wings wide open. I was almost certain that it was posing for the camera. One of those "once in a lifetime priceless shots".

@Cathie et Michel: Compliments to the seagull!
When the luck arrives towards you, you have to make the effort to catch it! Successful mission!

@Alain: Yup, I agree with ya. Thanks for the feedback, buddy.
Nice catch - yeah, you never think much of the seagull, do you?

@Walt: We never do, Walt... We never do. Thanks for dropping by.
Patience rewards my friend, very well captured. In the first look i though its an extract and overlap. ;-) But after reading the text, i would say this indeed is "one time priceless shot". EXCELLENT!!!!

@Rahul: Thanks, champ. Yea, it does look like an overlap doesn't it. I was simply blown away by the outcome of this picture. Camera was on manual focus at 55mm, could barely react as I was 'attacked' by this fellow - imagine how lucky I was.
Btw, how did your wedding shoot go?
It is an amazing capture! Excellent shot!

@RoBeRt: It flew really close to me - probably 3 meters over my head. Looking through my 55mm lens, it in fact looked like it was swooping down straight at me! Felt very 3D to me :) My heart was thumping for a bit.
Wonderful capture :)

I love the sharpness and clarity of this image. Works really well against this sky.

@Bob Israel: Thanks for your kind comments, Bob. If you look closely - the wings are a little off focus :)
It's an amzing pic! It's so surprising to me that you only use 17-55mm lens and you can get that close to the bird! Nice!
2 Jul 2007 6:26pm
@Wendy: I didn't really go close to it, but rather it flew close to me. I was trying to have lunch and this lil fella was circling me like a vulture. I was guarding my sandwich with my dear life :)
Truly is priceless!
